Stop 4 - The convent garden

The convent garden is a very special place. In earlier times, many sisters worked here daily to supply the convent with vegetables and fruit. The garden and its fruits were an important livelihood for the community.

Today, the convent no longer relies on growing vegetables, and so the garden is used in other ways. For example, flowers are planted, which sisters lovingly take care of. They beautify the garden and later decorate the rooms of the monastery or the church.

The convent garden is also a place of harmony with nature and peace. Walking attentively through the small hills, valleys and woods can be relaxing and exciting at the same time. So much can be observed and discovered in the different parts of the garden. In some places, spiritual places invite you to pause. Experiencing nature, spiritual recharging and relaxation are combined here.

What's behind it all?

Creation

A green wild meadow, a lovingly created flower bed, a rainbow, the peaceful forest, the setting sun turning the clouds pink.

On every single day there are countless little wonders and moments to discover. If we take the time, are attentive and look closely, we can recognise the beauty of creation everywhere. In a garden this is particularly easy. Behind every leaf, under every stone, in the meadow and in the air. There is life everywhere, beauty and wonder everywhere.

And so it is in the Bible: "He created such great things, they are not to be searched out; wondrous things, they are not to be numbered." (Job 9:10)

What is created always points to the Creator. Thus, through the incomparable beauty of creation, we receive an important reference to God. It points us again and again to the fact that God can create what is beautiful and perfect. God can only do this because he carries beauty and goodness within himself. They are God's innermost being, whose perfection we see mirrored in creation, of which we are also a part.

Take a few minutes of your time.

Find a quiet place in the garden where you can listen to the meditation.
Close your eyes and try to breathe easily for a while after the meditation and let the surroundings calm you.
